Review

Calder White lives in the beautiful clear waters of Lake Superior. His family is made up of mermaids and he is the only brother. He has 3 sisters. Maris, Tallulah and Pavati. In order to survive they have to take the energy of humans, killing them. They follow a family to seek revenge for their mothers death. Jason Hancock is the son of the man who they believe is responsible. They have to somehow lure him into the water, but this is going to be a problem. Jason Hancock is afraid of the water. Calder is sent to find a way to make this happen. He uses his irresistibilty and charm to worm his way into their lives. But he wasn’t prepared to fall for one of his possible targets. Lily. She is certain there is more to the stories of the mosters in the lake. She soon finds out just that.At first I was a little surprised at the way the mermaids were portrayed in this book. It shows us a much darker side than the pretty, mystical creature that we are always see. I found it very intriguing as the story went on. Calder is trying to escape the hold from his sisters, which is no easy task. He is mysterious, arrogant and sometimes a little creepy, but he ends up being a pretty good guy. He falls for Lily and something in him changes. I like that this was from his point of view, most of the time it is from the female mermaids point of view. The way this was written made you feel very connected to the main character, Calder. Lily was quirky, sarcastic, and not very trusting at first of Calder. She wasn’t the girl who is obsessed with her looks, and popularity. She really cares for her family, and would do anything for them. While Calder’s sisters are just evil, but they made you feel attracted and interested in them, just like their victims probably felt. The relationship between Calder and Lily was slow building, but was enough for you to route for them. And the underwater world described was amazing, and full of beauty. Just makes you want to go swim. I was completely enthralled from start to finish, and it was definitely a book that I didn’t want to put down. This is a haunting, breathtaking, seductively romantic tale of mermaids. I couldn’t have been more pleased with this book. I would recommend this one as a must read.
