Review

The plot of this is a cross between science fiction and dystopia. These two ships, the New Horizon and Empyrean are traveling in space to get to the New Earth. The whole concept of the whole control over reproduction plays a big part of what is happening on these ships. There is a lot of Christianity throughout the book, due to the fact that this is how one of the ships is ran. The kidnapping of the girls was terrible and the things these poor girls went through was horrible. Sometimes your stomach just plummets, you can’t help but feel sorry for them. Waverly and Keiran are just a young couple on board the Empyrean. There are also one of the firsts born in space. She is a very opinonated, and strong-will young girl. She hope there is more to life than just having babies. When the attack happens, she shows a great bravery and strength, especially being thrown into a leadership position with the girls. She risks her own life to save these girls from the hell they have endured on the New Horizon. Waverly is an truly amazing character. I really enjoyed her. While the girls are gone, Kieran finds himself in a position to take control of the Empyrean. He supposed to be the Golden Boy, the one who will take over for the Captain. But when everything goes haywire, he makes several grave mistakes. He and Seth definitely butt heads on almost everything. Kieran does what he believes is best for the ship, he just doesn’t go about it the right way sometimes. But he is a young kid. Towards the end he really shows us a side to him that I really didn’t care for. I hope he finds himself in the next book. I really admired him for the way he was with Waverly. Their love was sweet, and pure. It was really nice to see that they had grown up together, and it wasn’t the instant love we see in young people sometimes. I do however think that there is room for some trouble where Seth is concerned. You have your villans too. And let me tell you, Anne Mather’s is one of the most atrocious villains that I have seen in a book. You don’t know whether to trust her word or hate her. She definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. All in all this was a pretty good book, that I really did enjoy. There is so much I would like to learn about the ships themselves. It is filled with suspense, and lots of action. There is so much going on, We get to see it from Waverly and Kierans point of view, which helps to understand what is going on, on both ships. You have so many emotions, grief, loss, love and happiness for some. It is definitely a roller coaster. I will read the next one to see how Waverly and Kieran fare on their journey. I would give this one a try.
