Moonlight and Oranges - Elise Stephens
Moonlight and Oranges is a wonderful re-telling of the Greek myth, Cupid and Psyche. So instantly I was intrigued. The few changes that were made to the story were creative and done very well. Ready for a change, Lorona lets her friends take her out, little did she know that she would meet Kestrin, who is not only extremely handsome, but has a reputation as a womanizer. When he takes an interest in her, letting herself live a little, they have a whilrwind romance. But it is not an easy road, and there biog bumps along the way, just like any great romance. Our two main characters, Kestrin and Lorona are unique in their own way. Kestrin is man who believes in fate and love, so when he see Lorona he knows that she is the one for him. He has a colorful past, but deep down he is a man who genuinely a good guy and just wants happiness. Lorona is very shy, but has and abrasive side to her as well. She isn't very trusting and has done a good job of shielding her heart from love until she meets Kestrin. I think together they complement each other and they make a beautiful couple. There are a few other character that are amazing. Amanda is Kestrin's mother, and boy is she a doozy. She is manipulative and will have you disgusted by the things she does. She definitely plays the part of overprotective mother. Yuki and Kahlil are exactly what best friends should be. Loyal. These few characters play a major part to the story and were enjoyable addition. The plot development was slow at first, but I am happy that I kept reading. Once everything gets going, it grabs you and take you along their journey to find happiness together. And it is not hard to get swept up in it. Yes, this is a speedy romance with a quicky wedding, but that is not what it is all about. It is about insecurities, and trust and being able to get past the person you love's imperfections. Yes, they make mistakes but they work to learn from them and move on. This is a wonderful blend of contemporary romance twined with Greek mythology. I would definitely recommend reading this.
